Congressional Art Show
The Congressional Art Competition is the highest and most prestigious visual art competition nationwide which recognizes and encourages artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Every spring students across the nation submit their artwork to their district representative’s art competition. This year, Congressman Tony Cardenas, selected ArTES student, Jessica Martinez, as the winner of the Congressional 29th District Art Competition. Jess’s work is titled “Flora Over Fauna” and was created to represent the early European cartographers vision of the Americas before it was settled.
Jess’s artwork will hang in at the U.S. Capitol for one year. Jess was also awarded two round trip tickets to Washington D.C. to attend the Congressional Arts Award Ceremony which will be held in June. Jess is currently an 11th grader attending ArTES High School on the campus of Cesar Chavez Learning Academies in San Fernando, California.
