THEATRE
Theatre students at ArTES are fortunate to study a sequence of theatre instruction over four years:
“Intro to Theatre” introduces students to the basics of theatre, including ensemble, projection, articulation, characterization, dramatic structure, and scene work. Students who wish to continue beyond this may audition for a variety of intermediate and advanced classes.
“Theatre Ensemble” further develops the skills and concepts learned in “Intro” and gives students the opportunity to participate in a variety of festivals and competitions off campus, including DTASC, August Wilson, CETA, Shakespeare, and Fullerton.
“Theatre: Musical Production” is an intermediate class for student who would like to develop their musical theatre skills. This class does two performances.
“Theatre Portfolio” is an advanced independent study class for seniors who wish to study theatre in college and includes preparation for college auditions, as well as the “Spotlight” and “YoungArts” scholarships.
“Theatre Company/Play Production” are two advanced classes taught concurrently that focus on student productions, including a fall play and spring musical. Past productions for this class have included: Hairspray, Homer’s The Odyssey, FAME, The Addams Family, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Avenue Q. and this year’s Be More Chill.

“Theater has not only been a really fun experience, it has also helped shape me as the person I am today. Being on the stage and communicating with other students in Theater Company has made me less shy and a lot more confident. Theater Company is like a family to me and being part of it has really connected me to the school.”
