ArTES students participate in Dance and Dialogue
Dance students from all over Southern California were invited to participate in Dance and Dialogue, a dance workshop program where teenagers from diverse backgrounds come together to share the art they love. This program was created by Ricka Kelsch (For more info: http://danceanddialogue.com/) and this year the event was located at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex on the college campus of Cal State LA. The day began with Council, a practice ArTES already includes into the weekly College Prep Seminar curriculum, and it set the tone for the day. The mission of Council is to “awaken the connection with self, others, and the natural world” (http://councilinschools.org/?page_id=90). After Council, students participated in dance classes all day in the genres of Bollywood, African, Jazz, and Hip-Hop. The day culminated with five hundred teenagers dancing the routines they learned on the enormous beautiful stage and then a final Council conclusion round. ArTES dance students had the absolute best time meeting other dancers from all over So Cal and will continue to beam with joy from the experience for years to come!
