Every ArTES student should graduate fully prepared to be successful in their post-secondary plans, be it college, vocational school, internship or otherwise. In order to facilitate this, students are required to take College and Career Development classes, and are provided with opportunities to explore various post-secondary options. College Prep Seminar (CPS) is a10-unit credit-bearing course designed to develop the skills need to succeed in high school, get accepted to college, hone career skills, and thrive in the post-secondary environment. Each grade level has a unique theme that drives lessons and activities including Naviance, a college and career prep curriculum. CPS is also the place where students complete their Individual Graduation Plans (IGPs), prepare for Student Led Conferences and complete their college and financial aid applications.
ArTES also places high value in the social-emotional development of students. To see that our students are supported and their social-emotional wellbeing addressed, Council, a practice instituted by the Ojai Foundation is practiced weekly in CPS classes. Council provides a safe place for students to talk and share with one another, while at the same time building the supportive community that is so valued at ArTES. CPS teachers often become mentors and advocates for their students.
