“Arts Integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both.”

The Kennedy Center’s Definition of Arts Integration

At ArTES, this means teachers and trained artists working together to create highly engaging and rigorous lessons in English, math, science, social studies, and foreign language, using arts projects to demonstrate learning. We work closely with our partners from the California Institute of the Arts and Urban Arts Partnership to ensure the highest quality teaching possible.

At ArTES, arts teachers team with English, Math, Social Studies and Science departments for a semester each on a rotating Schedule. Core teachers find entry points in their curriculum and arts teachers develop strategies and activities that enhance the curriculum and provide increased engagement and additional perspectives for students. The collaboration between core and arts teachers enhances student learning in the core and provides additional opportunities for artistic experiences.
